The annoying artifact is called<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">moir\u00e9 pattern and is most often seen in fine detail textile patterns and motion control camera moves on magazine and book photographs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The interference pattern is caused by a specific mathematical relationship between the sampling sizes of video raster, monitor and the fine, repetitive detail in thr photographed subject.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Avoiding moir\u00e9 in SD is fairly straightforward. You could have a wardrobe change for example and the ugly interference will go away. SD is what-you-see-is-what-you-get.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Avoiding moir\u00e9 in HD edited masters is not a simple matter. Because HD can and will get <a title=\"downconverting to sd\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hdhead.com\/?p=60\">downconverted<\/a> to SD or <a title=\"crossconversions\" href=\"?p=115\">crossconverted<\/a> to another HD format even if you don\u2019t see the moir\u00e9 now in HD it may appear in subsequent versions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">To add insult to injury, moir\u00e9 is dependent on the pixel count of the display device. The proliferation of LCD monitors has made it impossible to account for every eventuality because LCD monitors come in variety of different pixel dimensions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">So, how do we avoid moir\u00e9? Avoid clothing with fine repetitive detail.
